The Connection of Minerals and Hormones

By Tam John

The WHO defines wellness as a “state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”

BUT how do we get there from where we are?  The body has a natural quest for equilibrium and healing BUT we ask what about genetics; what about aging ~ blame the years; what about what influencers, marketing, healthcare and big pharma – oh those ads on TV.  Maybe THEY have the answer.

Looking through a holistic lens, minerals and hormones constitute a large piece of the health pie.

Minerals are the sparks that create energy and make up skeletal structure.  Anatomy and Physiology teaches structure determines function and function determines structure.

Structure being anatomy and function being foundational wellness:  blood sugar balance, fatty acid balance, mineral balance, digestion, and ample hydration.

According to the National Library of Medicine, MedLine Plus, “Your body uses minerals for many different jobs, including keeping your bones, muscles, heart, and brain working properly.  …”

Consider that minerals in food are inorganic compounds that work with other nutrients to ensure the body functions properly.  Minerals cannot be made in the body.  They must come from the diet.  In our largely compromised food system and soil it makes sense that minerals can be compromised.

BUT before you pick up a multi vitamin and mineral supplement, realize that minerals must be in balance with each other for optimal function.  Dr. Albrecht discovered the synergistic relationship of minerals to each other.  If one is too high, the other will drop too low.  Guessing is not in tune with your biochemistry.

Dr. Paul Eck identified that minerals are key to physical as well as emotional destiny.  Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis/HTMA, offered by my company measures the body’s stress pattern as it relates to the nervous system and metabolism; and the compilation of minerals levels, their relationships to each other as well as heavy metals and toxic elements.  The stress pattern with HTMA results is information to base a personalized nutritional plan on each person’s unique biochemistry.

MedLine Plus continues “Minerals are also important for making enzymes (catalysts for energy creation) and hormones.”

Hormones are chemical messengers.  They send information in and out of cells for growth, reproduction, apoptosis, nutrient uptake, elimination of toxins . . . 100s of bio-chemical reactions.  The natural design works brilliantly when nutrients are uniquely balanced and bioavailable.  This comes about from a personalized approach to nourish each person’s individuality.

Hormones work as a lock and key, so a hormone like testosterone cannot enter kidney tissue for example.  The foundations of health and wellness rely on hormone feedback loops / signaling for which nutrition is fundamental.

A sound nutrition plan is foundational for happy healthy hormones and great energy creation, bringing about improved equilibrium.

According to Dan Buettner’s Blue Zones book, hormone studies have not been done longer than six months, an important consideration when contemplating Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy/BHRT.

Before you reach for the BHRT consider how mineral balancing through testing to know your biochemistry and support natural balance will work for you.  This evidence-based Functional Nutritional Therapy offered by EatRight-LiveWell (www.TamJohn.com) will help you naturally revitalize your HealthSpan to last your LifeSpan.
